Throughout its hundred year history, Prince’s has regularly hosted golf’s most prestigious championships, both professional and amateur, including both men’s and ladies’ Open Championships. A select band of only 14 courses has had the honour of staging the Open Championship, with only 9 on the current rota. For a period of 32 years the Open was not held south of Liverpool until our immediate neighbour Royal St George’s returned to the rota in 1981. In recent years Prince’s has invested heavily in maintenance and improvements to both the course and facilities and this investment will continue to maintain Prince’s at the high standard required for a possible return to the Open Championship rota. In 2006 alone Prince’s successfully hosted the Amateur Championship, with co-hosts Royal St George’s, the British Ladies Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship, the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship and the EGU County Championship Finals. The PGA at both county and regional level fully appreciate the quality of golf on offer at Prince’s by staging several events at the course each year.
For the visiting golfer Prince’s offers unrivalled access to championship golf of the highest quality at a most competitive price, with many societies returning every year. Throughout the summer months golfers can experience for themselves the true test of a hard and fast running championship links set up as it would be for a major championship. At over 7200 yards the course can be a formidable challenge for even the very best of golfers, but a range of less demanding tees ensures that players of all abilities can enjoy the course to the full. The mild climate and sand base ensures that the course and greens remain in fine condition throughout the winter, with no temporary greens or tees, even when many of our inland neighbours are closed.
