Golf details

These are our Partner courses with whom we have arranged for all our golfing guests to receive 20% discount off green fees both during the week and at weekends. You will also benefit from favourable tee times all pre booked and fixed and access to all course facilities and practice grounds. Bauge 14 kilometres from Le Bignon, Bauge Pontigne represents superb value for money and a scenic and interesting test of golf. Don’t be fooled by the humble surroundings of the ‘Accueil’ and small bar/club house – the welcome is as warm and friendly as the blazing fire which warms the bar on chillier days. The course is managed by green keeper Alain Delion, a scratch player himself, and therefore someone who knows how to set up a course for players. The fairways undulate through mature woodland – no bare landscapes and baby trees here. Many tees are set in avenues of trees that only open out onto the landing area. There are no blind driving holes and although the fairways are, in the main, generous, good strategy is needed to score well. Par 3s are longish and well guarded and you will do very well to reach Par 5s in 2. Outstanding holes include: #3 - a tight little par 4, only 324 metres but with a very narrow fairway, water all down the left and alongside the green and woods down the right. A long iron or fairway wood off the tee will leave possibly a good 6 iron into the smallish green. #6 - a lovely par 5. Aim a good long drive at the left hand building in the distance; your second will have to negotiate a narrow tunnel of trees. A good hit will take you over the crest and down the valley to have a shot to an elevated, well bunkered green. Leave here with par on your first visit and feel very pleased! #13,14,15 – Bauge’s own “Amen Corner”. A par 3, par 4, par 5 which will all need long and accurate hitting if you are not to ruin a decent round. Anyone who goes for the green in 2 on #15 and makes it deserves a drink!
Additional information

Avrille
Situated just outside the city of Angers, Avrille is built around a Seventeenth Century Chateau which houses the club facilities, including a pretty bar and restaurant. The course is not particularly long but is always in good condition and is laid out on gently undulating land with great regard for the unique arboretum of ancient trees and some testing water hazards. Avrille has proved a great favourite with golfers visiting Le Bignon and will make for a great day’s golf.

Anjou Golf and Country Club
As its name implies, AGCC is a development of some style. A wonderful clubhouse with first class facilities overlooks the panoramic course and a wide 1st floor terrace is a great place to relax after a round. The course itself is not a big hitters paradise – with several holes making good use of doglegs there are always choices to be made. Then there is always the water! Greens are modern in construction and always in great condition and the staff here is always helpful and friendly

Sable Solesmes Golf Club
A well-known course set north of Le Bignon in the valley of the River Sarthe. This is a very unique concept in course design, having three loops of nine holes, which have each been designed to have their own different character. Thus you may find yourself walking from the ninth green of an American style “target golf” layout with many lakes to fire over and semi-island greens, on to the tenth hole where the vista changes to mounded fairways with pot bunkers designed to mirror a links course. The third nine winds through mature woodland. No expense has been spared to make this the region’s premier facility and is a must play for any visitor to our area.
