Situated in a quiet hamlet, La Chardiere is set in a private and secure garden of approximately half an acre. La Chardiere is the perfect holiday retreat with everything on your doorstep - water sports, walking and cycling tracks, golf and horse riding. Set in beautiful Normandy Countryside a short drive from the main ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg, it is the perfect base to explore the surrounding towns and villages, sample local cuisine, learn more about the tragedies and triumphs of WW2 or simply play a round or two!

Gathemo is easily accesible from the major ferry ports with Cherbourg approximately 1.5 - 2 hours away and Caen only 1 hour away. La Chardiere is situated in a quiet rural hamlet, a short walk from the pretty village of Gathemo. The village has a bar/tabac and a bakers - prefect for morning croisants! The bustling town of Vire, with a large weekly market and a number of supermarkets, bars and restaurants is approximately 12kms away. There is a swimming pool, cimena and Hippodrome which houses regular trotting meetings. The smaller town of Sourdeval, with all amenities is only 7kms away. Weekly rentals run from Saturday 4pm to the following Saturday at 10am. However, we will always try to accomadate your travel arrangements, if you have alternative requirements, please discuss these with us. For short breaks, arrival and departure times are the same as for a weeks let. Short breaks are available subject to availability and we would suggest that you contact us to confirm your required dates are available before booking any travel. Weekend rates applies to Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Longer lets may be available, please contact us to discuss your requirements. We ask for a 25% non refundable deposit at the time of booking and the remaining amount must be paid eight weeks prior to your arrival at La Chardiere. If your arrival date is 8 weeks or less from your date of booking, we will ask for payment in full at the time of booking. Prices are given in Sterling, howeverm payments can be made in Euros. Please contact us for a conversion.

| Notes | La Chardiere is the perfect retreat for a couple, a family or friends to share. The cottage has ample room to ensure that you can enjoy your own space. At the front of the house are two lounges - one with a large open fire, perfect for those winter breaks. This main lounge has a CD player and comfortable seating for four. The second lounge has a TV/DVD player. The large kitchen/dining room ensures that the chef is not left out of the conversation. Outside, the garden area is just under half an area and there are three seating areas, all with wonderful views of the countryside. The large doors in the dining area lead onto the breakfast terrace and the BBQ terrace is in the middle of the garden. Both have a table and seating for four. The arbour in the corner of the garden provides a cool and shady spot. |
Golf details
Normandy boasts some of the best golf courses in Europe and La Chardiere is within easy reach of many of them.
Just a five minute drive away is Golf de Vire la Dathee, a 9 hole lakeside couse complete with practice area and bar with outside seating area giving wonderful views of the lake. The course is being enlarged to an 18 hole course due to open in 2008 but the work is not effecting play. (a link to the website can be found on the course locator facility of fairwaybreaks.com)
Approximately 45 kms away is the Golf de Clecy Cantelou, a hilly course set in 100 hectares. This 18 hole course can be found on the border of Calvados and Orne. The course has a driving range and club house and prices range from 19 to 42 euros (depending on time of play and season. Other courses are close by, including the Golf Centre Manche, a 9 hole close to St Lo, which is approximately 70kms away and the course at Bagnoles de l'Orne, a beautiful spa town which was a favourite holiday destination of wealthy Parisians and still retains much of its charm.
