NotesL'Absie with its population of 1132, is centred around the remains of a medieval abbey patronised by Eleanor of Aquitaine, There are shops bars and restaurants. During the week the local baker, fishmonger, grocer and butcher bring a selection of their local produce to sell outside Chez Rogers / Rue de la Morinère. Several bakers come daily and the bulk wine merchant delivers weekly. There is a hard tennis court at l'Absie 2 miles away and more courts and a pool at La Chataigneraie. The nearest city is ancient Parthenay, a small medieval city overlooking a river. Parthenay also known for its breed of cattle. There is a golf course at Mazières en Gatine near Parthenay.
