Property description

House & pool looking over historic 'listed' village & moors
Prettily situated on a slight hillside, La Coumo looks over the once-fortified hilltop village of Laurac le Grand some 25 mins drive from Carcassonne & 45 mins from Toulouse. It has three bedrooms, sleeping 6 to 8 people, and two bathrooms. It is a traditional house -- once the village smithy -- well-insulated for the summer heat and with a wood-burning stove & electric radiators for the winter It has an 8 x 12 metres pool which has an easily detachable 'glass'cover keeping it warm & clean --this can extend the swimming season in rather cool periods. The pool is surrounded by terraces & a garden which is very peaceful ; the road which passes & climbs up the valley carries very few vehicles. This superb walking country , but also good for driving -- quiet roads where driving is still a pleasure lead to plenty of shops & restaurants, to the mountains & the sea..........and of course to several good golf-courses.

NotesA fine base for touring, with visits to bustling market-towns & quiet villages, castles & cathedrals, and the nearby Canal du Midi with superb walking, cycling & boating ..........and of course the ramparts & old walled-city of Carcassonne. This is good wine-producing country with many vineyards & domaines where 'degustation' (wine-tasting) is welcome & informal -- call in, taste, and buy if you wish ............and there are arts festivals, village-fetes in which you can join, and pageants............ the nearest golf- course (Carcassonne) is 30 mins drive, and there are at least four others within 60 mins --- see later section. For some relaxed practice inbetween visits there is a mini-golf course laid out on the hillside above a neighbouring farm -- simple but demanding because of the slope & the terrain!
Golf details

The nearest golf-course is CARCASSONNE, 30 minutes pleasant drive. Further afield , but still within an hour's drive, there are several others ------FOIX (Serrou) , combine this with a visit to nearby Mirepoix market, the best in the region) ......CASTRES a beautiful historic town..........and three others around TOULOUSE, 'la ville rose' which has so much to offer. Given that driving here is a pleasure --- not to be compared with driving on Britain's crowded roads -- it is feasible to take in other courses which lie within a two hours drive, and visit at the same time some very special places in adjoining regions ----- ALBI with its cathedral & the Toulouse-Lautrec museum ...........FIAC & MARSAC in the TARN region with its gorges & bastides.........L'ISLE-JOURDAIN towards the splendid architecture & rolling landscape of the GERS......... PERPIGNAN with its coastal villages & the Spanish border...........and if you get back to the gite a little tired after the drive, you can cool off and relax around the pool and drink the wine that you bought at a 'degustation cave' which you dropped in to on the way back !
