Just a 45 minute drive west from Faro International Airport there is easy access down the newly opened A22 dual carriage way to both the east and rugged west coast. Villa Vale da Pinta is an exquisite hideaway, which commands breathtaking undisturbed views down a lush green valley a mere 400 yards from the sea and beach below. Within walking distance you will discover fabulous restaurants, a coffee shop selling daily newspapers, a pizza house and a well stocked mini market. PINTA Estombar Carvoeiro 18 hole par 71 This is a well laid out and interesting course just a few minutes drive from Villa Vale Da Pinta. Set in a truly Algarve landscape with almond, olive and carob trees decorating the course that rolls through small valleys and hills. Some of the olive trees are reputed to be in the region of 1,500 years old. The holes that deserve a special mention are the par-3 tenth and the par-5 thirteenth. The former has a large bunker defending the green against your shot, the latter, winds through a valley for 541 meters. GRAMACHO Estombar Carvoeiro 18 hole par 72 This was originally a nine hole course which has been extended and cleverly redesigned to become a fully fledged 18 hole course. A formidable challenge to its designer! The course covers undulating terrain with olive, almond and carob trees planted years before by the local farmers. The course has been designed for the player to be technically accurate and to know which club to choose before hitting the ball - anything less will quickly increase his score! ALTO near Praia Da Rocha 18 hole par 72 This course is located between the town of Portimao and the sea, close enough to the latter to give the player an occasional sea view, a simple par-3 opens your round but it is deceiving to what is in store. The course is considered a good test of a player’s ability with strategic bunkers, dog legs, elevated green and well placed trees. A further noteworthy challenge is the par-5 on the sixteenth that is considered to be one of the longest in Europe. PENINA CHAMPIONSHIP Portimao 18 hole par 73 This grandfather of courses in the Algarve and a permanent living memory to its architect and active promoter, Sir Henry Cotton. Originally paddy fields for rice growing have been converted into a flat and challenging course, especially for the stronger player. Half a million shrubs and trees were planted in the conversion. Its fairways are flat. Henry Cotton introduced strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.
