The area
In the area are Castles, Historic Houses (including Stronvar) and battle sites. Museums, visitor centres, Whisky distilleries,a Safari Park, a Wildlife centre and excellent restaurants. 30 Golf Courses within area for a day's golf. Pony trekking and Watersports. Hillwalking and mountains to climb. The National Cycle track Route 7 passes the entrance to Stronvar. Bicycles can be rented from Callander Fishing (Our Loch Voil and many others) Theatre and cinema and major shopping in Stirling (30 miles - 45km) A comprehensive up to date information file is always kept in the house. There are many pubs with excellent beer in local villages. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily accessible by Trains from Stirling or Dunblane which avoids difficult parking in those cities. Our guests sometimes arrange our local village bus company to transport them to Edinburgh and back for a very economical price in a private minibus.

The area continued
Our nearest Airports are Glasgow International (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI), both are about 60 miles from Stronvar. There is no public transport from Stronvar so cars are essential . Local Village shops (Strathyre and Lochearnhead both with post offices) are excellent for all general groceries (And local gossip and advice!) Callander 12 miles (16km) away has two supermarkets. Churches: Balquhidder is Presbyterian, Lochearnhead is Episcopalian and there is also Roman Catholic in Callander and all are very welcoming. Sports centre with swimming pool at Callander. Tennis in Strathyre. Our garden is secluded and there is free access to all the countryside and mountains. A map is essential and we recommend 2.5km to 1cm scale or borrow the one in Stronvar House.
