“Santa Maria Golf & Country Club”, as the name suggests, is far more than a Golf Club. Based around an 18th century “cortijo” which is currently the Club House, the grounds boasts stunning gardens and fine leisure facilities including tennis and lawn bowling. “Santa Maria” prides itself on being one of the friendliest international clubs on the coast and the existing membership which is currently held to about 550 members is made up of 14 different nationalities. Set amidst unparallel beauty of the Andalucian countryside, the course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and four lakes form natural hazards. The course is not long but full of interest and with each hole having it’s own character. Many of the tees are elevated and the views from the 10th hole to the 16th are breathtaking on a fine day.
Playing from men’s yellow medal tee. To start your round the 1st is a fairly straight-forward par 4 of 289 metres.
The first par 3 of the round is the 7th hole, measuring 194 metres from an elevated tee. Not surprisingly, not all golfers will reach the putting surface in one shot.
Hole 11 is a spectacular par 4 right to left dog-leg measuring just 286 metres. The elevated tee is on the highest part of the course and long hitters have to avoid running into the lake or adjacent bunker.
Behind the 11th green and adjacent to the 12th tee is the “mirador”, where you can take a moment to look around and enjoy the sheer beauty of the setting.
The prophetically numbered 13th is the third and last of the par 5’s, measuring 466 metres. A well hit drive will easily clear the valley in front of the tee leaving the player a choice for his second shot on this long dogleg.
The 18th, a par 4 of 345 metres, is one of the most demanding closing holes on the Coast. The view from the elevated medal tee is rather intimidating and to the immediate front and left side is a tree-lined water hazard.

Location
Elviria has a high concentration of restaurants and Marbella town, with its charming Old Town area is a mere five minutes drive away. Two minutes from the golf club is the sleek and sexy Nikki Beach club at the Don Carlos Hotel, where you can lounge the afternoon away on one of the beach club chill-out beds – sipping a cocktail and listening to the cool sounds especially selected to suit the mood of the day by the resident DJ.
Five minutes east there’s Cabopino, a picturesque little port where you can dine at the water’s edge and watch the small to medium size yachts come and go. There are plenty of restaurant options: Italian, Indian, Spanish, British, to name a few, plus some excellent fish restaurants.
