Best of both, apartment with pool near golf courses and the beach!
The apartment is part of a small complex aranged around a communal pool. Large lounge/diner, one large double bedroom with 5ft bed, one smaller bedroom with 4ft bed, plus sofabed in the lounge (sleeps 1). For the summer there are two ceiling fans in the lounge and one in each bedroom. For those chilly evenings in the winter months there is an electric fire and an oil filled radiator which keeps the apartment comfortably warm. The complex is a few steps to the promenade (2nd line) which leads to the harbours and beach. It has a security gate and entrance-phone. The approach is from the road with steps leading to ground-floor level where the apartment is situated beside the pool. We do not recommend the apartment for families with toddlers or wheelchair users. Pets are not allowed. The village is very peaceful for most of the year, but becomes livlier during June, July and August when the Spanish traditionally take their holidays and head for the cooler climate of the coast.

Villaricos
Small fishing village in the region of Almanzora, Almeria. Short drive to Mojacar a large seaside resort and also to the port and town of Garrucha. 1 hrs drive from Almeria airport. 1 1/2 hrs drive from Murcia. 2 hours drive from Alicante airport. Car-hire from the airport is recommended.

Almeria has many very good golf courses and Villaricos is a good base for a golfing holiday. There are 4 very good, and very different, golf courses within a short drive: Valle Del Este Golf Resort, 18 hole, Tel: 0034 950 398743. Family friendly club: Beach Club, Spa, Sports club. Club de Golf Cortigo Grande, 9 hole, Tel: 0034 950 468176. Set in a valley of orange groves, almond and fig trees, this is a very pretty course. Club Marina Golf Mojacar, 18 hole, Tel: 0034 950 133235. Set between Garrucha and Mojacar with views of the ocean. Designed around 3 lakes strategically placed to give a challenging round. Desert Springs, 18 hole, Tel: 0034 637 861592. Desert Springs was designed with a desert theme in mind and the course is certainly impressive. Well worth taking the family as there are many facilities including the Day Spa, pool, restaurant, Crocodile Club (unclorinated 'desert springs' water swimming pool with underwater music! Various games, etc.). All are within 15 - 30 mins drive. There are many more very good golf clubs further afield.

General information
Villaricos has a scuba-diving club, VivaRiva Diving Sports, details on a link to our website. There is a fishing tackle shop, a newsagents/tobacconist, two mini-markets, two butcher’s shops and a shop selling fresh fish. There are larger supermarkets within a short drive, but all of your immediate needs can be purchased locally. There is an ATM machine at entrance to the village and banks in nearby Palomares.

Sunday market
Villaricos holds a market each Sunday selling local produce, clothes, linen etc. You can also buy a freshly cooked chicken for lunch!

History
For those interested in archaeology the area has an interesting history. The enclave of Baria built during the time of the Phoenecians has recently been discovered, now unfortunately covered over due to lack of funds to develop further. It is also said that Hannibal, complete with elephants, landed on a local beach before his unsuccessful attempt to conquer Rome.
