Marina de la Torre
Marina de la Torre is now classed as the 'posh end' of Mojacar, being within walking distance of the working Town and Port of Garrucha. All year round resort sun, sea, beach, walks, golf with local buses if you have non golfers/children in your party. Local tennis courts, 5-aside football and children's playgrounds along all playas. Overlooking 18th and other fairways of Marina Golf , 20 mins drive inland to Valle del Este and Desert Springs Courses, all different 18 holes and very challenging. A 4th 9hole being upgraded to 18 in beautiful Cortje Grande Valley and a 5th at Macenas along the coast coming on-line late 2007 also within 20 mins. Numerous bars/restaurants - very intermational cuisine along all playas, in Garrucha and up in Mojacar's white Pueblo village. Excellent supermarkets with fab fish and deli counters half the UK price not forgetting the Riojas, Crianzas and Cava!

Marina Golf Course was originally designed and built in 2000, comprising full 18 holes, Club House and pro shop facilities, practise area comprising driving range, putting green and 5 x par 3 approach holes. Buggies, electric and pull trolley hire. Normal golf attire required, soft spikes only, plus handicap certificates 28 gentleman and 36 ladies accepted. Marina Golf is the easier of the 3 major local 18 hole courses, comprising 7 holes just above sea and beach level. Play 1 & 2 then 3 takes you up the mountain to the left of the small fortress (photo 2). Before teeing off, take time, look back and look at the fantastic view! Hole 4, a par 5 is found right at the top where you play out and over to the lower fairway (tricky or what). Lost your ball then stop relax and look at the magnificent views. Hole 5 straightfoward short par 3, but do watch out for occasional cross winds which could take your ball to the right and out of bounds. Holes 6 to 12 covers a good mix of straightforward and tricky par 4, a long par 3 and par 5, finishing with a short 4, the latter holes quite undulating. Do stop and take a look across to Mojacar Pueblo village nestled within the Cabrera mountain range. After 12 you will be relieved to climb or preferably drive your buggy up the long winding mountain cart track back to hole 13 (see photo 1), continuing on down to 14 through to 18 which is adjacent to our apartments overlooking the lake a nice par 5 back to the 19th and a well deserved San Miguel or chilled white Rioja, partake of the menu de dia or various bar snacks.

20 minutes drive inland, close to the Town of Vera - 18 hole championship (not for beginners) and hardest of the 3. Long demanding exciting and challenging, different grass to Marina Golf. Take plenty of golf balls as water, ravines and gulleys are just waiting for a miss hit or a bad bounce to swallow up your supply. Fast greens so watch your pace. Restaurant, terraces, best pro shop of the 3 courses (ladies check the sale rails!) . Driving range, putting and chipping practise areas. H/Cap certs required. Desert Springs Golf Course opened 02
2nd hardest and the most expensive of the 3 - a 20 minute drive inland to the Almanzora area (remember the caves of?). Built in a most spectacular way at the top of a mountain, on a plateau, so fairly flat and pull trolleys won't exhaust you. You really are in the desert and that is what the 18 hole Course is designed around, with great effort put in to create a desert wonderland, using the dark green thick bladed tough grass required to form beautiful fairways and greens. Plantings are amazing and in March/April/May a blaze of brightly coloured desert flowerings can dazzle even through sun glasses. Amazing bronzes can be scene around the course, and they also have a splendid Crocodile Bar too, the Owners being influenced by trips to S African Courses. A rather splendid Club House, bar and restaurant is surrounded by part moat and running water, housing many of the protected, sometimes very noisy frogs Handicap certs required and you pay upon booking even in advance
