Jimena de la Frontera
Jimena de la Frontera is one of the enchanting "White villages" of the Ronda mountains. It is sited on a freestanding hill crowned by a romantic Romano-Moorish castle. Below it runs the beautiful oleander-fringed Hozgarganta river rated the cleanest in Spain, the haunt of the kingfisher, blue rock thrush, terrapins and otters. The village borders the beautiful dramatic and unspoiled Alcornocales Park where the wildlife ranges from eagles and vultures, bee-eaters and great tufted owls, deer, wild boar, genets and mongooses to scarce swallowtails, two tailed pashas and salamanders as well as over two thousand wild flower species. The village, with its sister village of Gaucin, is situated mid-way between the south coast and Ronda. It is only an hour from Gibraltar airport, two from Malaga airport , two and a half from Jerez airport and three from Seville. It is within easy reach of the coast and many historic old towns and villages.

- Notes
- Jimena is a village where you can eat well in the many tapas bars and restaurants and there are some excellent restaurants in the countryside nearby. It is well supplied with food stores. It is an excellent centre from which to explore the historical, archaeological and architectural sites of the surrounding area. With the rugged and unspoiled Alcornocales Park on its doorstep, home to vultures, eagles, genets, mongooses and otters it is a paradise for anyone interested in birds and other fauna or wild flowers which are particularly splendid in May.
Golf details
There are something like sixty golf couses between Malaga and Gibraltar!. The nearest is Valdarrama (of Ruyder Cup fame) in Sotogrande. A golf course is presently being built 3 kms from Jimena.
