Fiestas
During Easter, Lorca town has a fabulous procession which is well worth visiting. There is also a splendid Visitors Centre surrounding Lorca Castle.
During February the town of Aguilas has its fiesta over 2 weekends, again usually a spectacular show. Caravaca de la Cruz, about 1 hours drive away, is the 5th holiest city in the world and well worth a visit. Mazarron celebrates fiestas during November and December. The most unusual is 5 January when the Three Wise men 'park' their camels in order to enter the Port of Mazarron by boat.
In Ramonete itself, August and early September see our local fiestas.
Places to Visit
El Saladillo, about 20 minutes drive on the MU603 Mazarron-Murcia Road is a natural hot water spring. The spring appeared by chance some years ago when owners of the farm were searching for water. Dozens of people bathe daily, the water temperature is quite hot. Mazarron Town Hall have plans to improve the spring.
Sierra Espuna Natural Park, belongs to the municipalities of Totana, Alhama, Lorca, Aledo, Mula and Pliego. Small villages take you back to remote times as the structure of these towns has been kept intact. Aledo is a medieval town, especially worth visiting the castle on the edge of an amazing cliff.
Not far from the Port of Mazarron along the coast is a place which has been until a few years ago a military base - Castillitos. You can see old cannons which were used for defence from the first quarter of the twentieth century, abandoned customers officers barracks. Also on offer are breath taking views to Cartagena and Mazarron and Aguilas (eagles).
